OVERVIEW
What Are Wage Garnishments?
Wage garnishment is the term used to describe action taken by the state or federal government to resolve an existing tax debt through forced deduction of wages.
Wage garnishment is a type of tax levy. A portion of the money you earn from your employer is paid directly to the government before it gets to you.
Once a wage garnishment action has been taken, it normally stays in effect until the tax debt is paid in full or until a tax resolution is put into place.
